Tomorrow Trust
Holiday Schools Programme

The Tomorrow Trust was founded at the end of 2005 and originally began as an organization focused on assisting orphaned and or vulnerable children with post secondary education. It was soon realized that the matric results of these children was not indicative of their full potential and that they would never be able to take advantage of the opportunity of attending a university or college if we did not help them to improve their matric results.

It was for this reason that the project was expanded to include a holiday school program which began with grade 10s entering a three year programme, giving supplementary tuition to students over the school vacation periods. A further gap was identified in that once the learners reached grade 10, they had not mastered the foundation phase of education and the Tomorrow Trust then ran a successful pilot programme for grades 0 -2 in 2007.To date we are currently running Grade R-5 in 2010 and hoping to grow with each grade in the following years.

At the Tomorrow Trust we believe that educating the children is the only way to ensure that they can one day become a positive and active member of the overall South African economy and society..

Kim Feinberg (CEO and founder) started this project because she felt that although the world was focusing on the tragedy of those dying of AIDS very few had taken the time to consider those who are left behind to pick up the pieces and deal with the stigma that follows them.

The Tomorrow Trust wanted to give these individuals the opportunity to have a life that they could create and shape for themselves through the power of education and empowerment.

There was not one other organization set up in SA to address these essential needs that impact both the child as well as our society and economy.

By 2010 there will be an estimated 25 million Aids orphans in the world with the majority in Africa. These children will all be reliant on charity draining any economy as well as much needed skills force.

Holiday schools are given as a support for the individual child in 2 areas:
A system of workshops addressing both academic and self growth/ life skills has been implemented. Workshops are given as a support for the individual child in 2 areas:
1) Life Skills - The workshops will facilitate issues around values, beliefs, goals and commitment. These workshops provide a support system to assist the child through the normal educational school curriculum and encourage them to develop self help and self growth skills.
2) Academic – It has become known that an alarming amount of OVC’s are not passing school in a positive way. This is not only harmful to their already fragile self esteem but does not facilitate the progressive movement to help them enter post-secondary education. Due to the many changes to the education system in South Africa in recent years, teachers are not coping with the syllabus and therefore much needed knowledge is not being passed on to the school learners.
4. Closing remarks:
The project has proved to be a resounding success and we feel confident that the children are receiving top academic support which has not been afforded to them in the past. We look forward to expanding the programme across the board, both  regionally and educationally, to include more children and more grades in the programme.

Saturday school Programme

The current holiday schools program supports 600 learners in grades 10,11 and 12. Whilst learners attending the holiday school programme gain meaningful input and a lasting impact on their grades can be seen, we would like to extend our support in the form of Saturday schools to learners that are show further dedication and real proactively in taking their education to the next level and are currently excelling within their schools. We are  offering these learners access to subjects that are currently showing low national levels of performance. Thus aiding the Department of Education in improving the Maths Pure, English, Science and Biology marks. This programme will be an additional programme, that will run adjacent to our Holiday school programme in order to see a full impact. With this in mind we are looking to  implement a Saturday school for the top 50 learners from the current program who will then have access to private school facilities, food and educators of the highest standards. This new initiative will commence on the 21st July 2010.
