On Saturday the 5th November, Tomorrow Trust held the award ceremony for the Grade 8 & 9 learners in the Holiday & Saturday School Programme.The Tomorrow Trust awards celebrate the achievements and the improvement of academic performance throughout the year by the learners. As an extra mural activity, the learners engage in arts every Saturday, facilitated by Lalela.  Their paintings were displayed and awards as well were given to the ‘most creative’ learners.

Below we have highlighted our Award winners.

Grade 8

Overall Top Achiever:  Zandi

–              At the beginning of the year, Zandi overall average was 59% she has improved to an overall average of 79%

–              English went from 46% to  68%

–              Natural Science went from 50% to 79%

–              Maths went from 51% to 90%

Most Improved Performance in English:

–              Khanyisile improved her baseline results in English from 36% to 82%.

Most Improved Performance in Maths:

–              Jabulile maths results  for 2016 moved from 34% in his pre baseline test  to 48%in term 1 then to  64%in term 2 and his post baseline test  to 83%

–              Zama   maths improved from 37% – 47% – 80%

–              Lerato maths improved to 80%

Most Improved Performance in Natural Sciences:

–              Samekelo Natural science improved from 47% in Term 1 to 84% in Term 3

Grade 9a & 9b:

Grade 9a Overall Top Achiever:

–              Andre started the year with an overall average of 50%, he has improved to an overall average of 82%. All his marks have improved.

–              English  went from 53% to  78%

–              Natural Science improved from 40% to 81%

–              Maths improved from 40% to 87%

Grade 9b Overall Top Achiever:

–              Lesego started the year with an overall average of 40% he has improved to an overall average of 88%, with all subjects improving.

–              English improved from 41% to 85%

–              Maths improved from 49% to  93%

–              Natural Sciences  improved from 30% to 87%

Most Improved Performance in English:

–              Ntokozo English performance improved from 35% to 85%and his maths improved from 23% – 47% – 68% – 80%

–              Thato English performance improved from 26% to 86%

Most Improved Performance in Maths:

–              Ntombifuthi Maths improved to from 46% to  87%

–              Tltlomatso Maths improved from 14% -45% -64% -83%

–              Thato Maths improved from 3% – 21% – 46% – 77%

Most Improved Performance in Natural Sciences:

–              Thando Natural Science improved from 50% to 95%

–              Siphokazi Natural Science improved from 43% to 88%

A group of Grade 12 learners – as a way of showing their gratitude to Tomorrow Trust, started an initiative of collecting items, filling shoe boxes, which were given to Grade 8s & 9s.  This was well received by the little ones. The Grade 12 representative encouraged the younger learners to learn to be grateful and to always think about the next person.  The shoe boxes contained a number of items ranging from stationery items, reading books, make-up, sweets, teddy bears etc.
